Freebie Friday & Manic Monday!

Freebie Fridays Classroom Freebies Manic Monday

I'm very thankful to Tamara & Charity for hosting these awesome link-ups!  I have found some wonderful ideas and am enjoying all the new connections!

Here's my freebie contribution:  This time it's for Social Studies.  It's called a "Flag Quest".

The Flag Quest assignment is an opportunity for students to explore the world and develop a basic understanding of countries around the world.
The first connection students make to the country assigned is through the
flag of that selected country.  Then students are off on an adventure to uncover basic and unusual information about the country.  Their mission:  To find the most unusual cultural facts about the country assigned.

This project could be a weekly assignment and is a good way to allow kids to flex their research muscles.  It's also an opportunity make sure students understand plagiarism.

This download comes with instructions for a flag quest, a rubric, and the common core standards that this activity meets.

It is FULLY EDITABLE, COMMON CORE aligned for grades 6-8 and located here:  TeachersPayTeachers

and also here:    Google Docs

  1. This is a wonderful idea! The upper grades at my school do a Geography Fair at the end of each year. This would be a great way to build up to it. I'm going to share it with those teachers.

    1. I'm glad you like the idea! Thanks for stopping by... :)

  2. Found you from Manic Monday! Great idea! I did something similar with my sixth grade class this year. You might want to check it out on my blog. I think they could actually be combined into one big idea.... Have a great week. You have a new follower:)
